Why PlanIt Switched to Bitcoin Payments (and What It Means for You)

PlanIt Team · · 5 min read

PlanIt now takes payments in Bitcoin instead of through a card processor. Here is why we made the change, what you can pay for, and the trade-offs we are upfront about.

The Short Version

PlanIt now accepts payments in Bitcoin instead of through a card processor. That covers donations, feature requests, the White Label setup fee, and White Label subscriptions. Prices are still shown in USD.

Why We Made the Switch

As a small, independently built platform, we ran into restrictions with the external payment services we could use. Rather than build PlanIt around limitations we couldn't control, we decided to build our own payment flow around Bitcoin.

  • No card details to leak. You pay from your own wallet, so we never see or store a card number.
  • No chargebacks. Once a Bitcoin payment is confirmed, it is final, which keeps things simple for a small team.
  • Works across borders. You do not need a particular bank or card network to support PlanIt.
  • No account or billing form. No sign-up, no billing address, no stored payment profile.
  • Leaner processing costs. Fewer middlemen between you and us.

What You Can Pay For

  • Donations (from $3)
  • Feature requests (from $5)
  • White Label setup fee ($299)
  • White Label plans: Basic $49/mo, Pro $99.99/mo, Enterprise $149.99/mo

What Stays the Same

Prices are in USD. At checkout we convert to Bitcoin at the current rate and lock that price for a short window: 20 minutes for donations and feature requests, 60 minutes for White Label. Pay inside the window and you pay exactly the amount you were shown.

Trade-Offs We Are Upfront About

  • Payments cannot be reversed. Refunds are handled manually, case by case.
  • No automatic renewals. Bitcoin cannot be pulled from your wallet, so we send a payment link each month instead.
  • On-chain Bitcoin only. We do not accept Lightning or cards right now.
  • You pay the network fee. It goes to miners, not to PlanIt. We add nothing on top of the price.
