Is Paying with Bitcoin Safe? Confirmations, Fees, and What Happens If Something Goes Wrong

PlanIt Security Team · · 6 min read

How we protect your payment, how long confirmations take for each order size, and exactly what happens if you pay late or pay too little.

How We Protect Your Payment

  • A fresh address for every order. Your payment address is used for your order only.
  • Prices are set by our server. Amounts are calculated from the USD price on our side, so they cannot be changed from your browser.
  • We only receive, never send. Our payment setup is watch-only. It can see incoming payments but cannot move funds.
  • Each order is fulfilled once. No double credits or duplicate activations.
  • Your details are cleaned up. Any name or email attached to an order is removed after it is fulfilled.

How Long Does It Take?

Bitcoin transactions are grouped into blocks roughly every ten minutes. A payment is detected as soon as it is announced, then gains a confirmation with each new block. Bigger orders wait for more confirmations:

  • Under $20 (donations): accepted as soon as the payment is seen
  • $20 to $100 (Basic and Pro plans): about 10 minutes, one confirmation
  • $100 and up (Enterprise plan, $299 setup fee): about 20 minutes, two confirmations

Fees

You pay the network fee, added by your wallet on top of the price. It goes to miners. PlanIt adds no fee. A standard or medium fee confirms in a normal time.

What If Something Goes Wrong?

I paid after the timer ran out. Your payment is not lost. Late payments are flagged for manual review and we resolve them by hand.

I sent slightly too little. We allow about 1% of tolerance for rounding. Anything beyond that goes to manual review.

I am worried I paid twice. Do not send again. Check your pay page, then contact us through the Support page with your invoice ID.

Can I get a refund? Bitcoin payments cannot be reversed, so refunds are manual and handled individually.

The Honest Summary

Bitcoin trades chargeback protection and card convenience for privacy, finality, and no stored card data. If you are comfortable double-checking an address and amount before you send, it is a smooth experience. If you are not, our Help Center walks you through it.
